Dak Prescott publicly shows love to fellow QB, teammate after Trey Lance trade

Dak Prescott said all the right things following the Dallas Cowboys' decision to trade for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance. But one area where the team's franchise quarterback couldn't bite his tongue was in the obvious disappointment and feelings he had about what the trade would almost certainly mean in terms of the ripple effect on the current quarterback room.

With the Cowboys' addition of Lance, it all but guaranteed an exit for Will Grier, who put together a stellar performance in the team's final preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. As Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News detailed, Prescott answered questions about the trade to acquire Lance after the preseason game, saying he was "ready to welcome him," but also turned the attention to his feelings on Grier.

"Honestly, right now, my heart and my mind are with Will [Grier]. ...I love that guy to death over there." Prescott said, per Gehlken.

Grier, who was the No. 3 quarterback for Dallas, torced the Raiders in the final preseason game, completing 29-of-35 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 53 yards and two additional scores in a showing that's sure to grab the attention of a few quarterback-needy rosters if and when the Cowboys release him.

With Cooper Rush locked in as Prescott's backup and Lance arriving in town, Grier almost surely knew what this likely meant for his future with the team. Even still, he went out and put up the type of performance worthy of a tip of the cap on ESPN's "SportsCenter" tonight.
