The Dallas Cowboys are a certified holiday team for the NFL as they're one of two teams in the league that's a guaranteed a spot on the Thanksgiving slate of games on a yearly basis.
Now, they're taking it to the next level by getting a Christmas Day game. The NFL is expected to rotate teams for three-game slates on Dec. 25 moving forward as it battles the NBA for dominance of the day. Adding the Cowboys to the mix is the ultimate hack.
Per Nick Harris from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram , the Cowboys will visit the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day in a game streamed by Netflix.
It should obviously be a great matchup. Dak Prescott and Jayden Daniels battling it out late in the year will probably be massive for both teams as they're expected to be in the mix for a Wild Card playoff berth.
The Cowboys and Commanders went 1-1 last season even though Prescott missed both matchups. Historically, the veteran quarterback has been dominant vs. NFC East rivals but this time, the Commanders are a much scarier team.
Dan Quinn has done more with less with his defense and Kliff Kingsbury is play-calling his way back into the head coaching space, drawing serious interest earlier in the offseason before deciding to run it back with Daniels.
It's unlikely. The NFL has indicated it's not prepared to commit single teams to traditionally play Dec. 25 like the Cowboys and Lions do Thanksgiving.
"I imagine we’re gonna keep rotating Christmas around, too," said NFL's V.P. of broadcast planning Mike North earlier in the offseason, meaning you can expect different NFL teams to show up every year.
The Chiefs are playing on Christmas for the second consecutive year, however, so that's something that could change. But I don't believe you'll get Dallas on both holidays every year.
