Cowboys OC issues blunt response to CeeDee Lamb's absence

The 2024 NFL season has a lot more meaning to the Dallas Cowboys than many years in the past. It is a make or break season that could result in the complete dismantling of the team if it does not live up to expectations.

Both head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott are on the hot seat, but the season could have a big impact on receiver CeeDee Lamb’s future with the team as well.

Lamb has been rumored to potentially leave the Cowboys if the two sides can’t work out an extension. Things have not gone easy in negotiations so far, and that has become apparent during the voluntary portion of early offseason workouts this year.

As has been heavily reported, Lamb has been absent from the Cowboys’ voluntary workout program. While it’s not cause for panic, it’s certainly a sign that he’s not going to go out of his way for the franchise right now.

When asked about Lamb’s absence, Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer offered a blunt response.

“It doesn’t matter right now. CeeDee’s a pro. He’s going to know what to do. “Again, I know Dak and the guys have some communication with him. We know he’s taking care of business and when he gets back here, we’ll certainly be able to find ways to get him the ball.”

Lamb is fresh off of a monstrous 2023 season with the Cowboys. He played in all 17 games and ended up with 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. Those numbers show just how important he is to the Dallas Cowboys’ offense and how dominant he has become.

Looking ahead to the 2024 NFL season, the Cowboys cannot afford anything less than a deep playoff run. If they fall short of that goal, team owner Jerry Jones will likely make some drastic moves. Jones is completely done with the playoff failures that have become such a normal occurrence in Dallas.

It seems likely that Lamb and the Cowboys will find a way to work out a new contract. He’s one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and if Dallas moves on from Prescott, it will need a true No. 1 wideout for whoever it brings in as its new quarterback.

Expect to see CeeDee Lamb put together another big season in 2024 for the Dallas Cowboys. Missing out on a voluntary portion of the season is not uncommon for star players.
