Opportunity appeared to be knocking for former Tennessee Vols QB Joe Milton III after he was traded from the New England Patriots to the Dallas Cowboys during the offseason.
Now, the Cowboys have made an official designation as to Milton's status with the team ahead of its preseason opener this week. Dallas released its unofficial depth chart on Tuesday, and Milton is listed as the backup quarterback behind Dak Prescott. Will Grier, the only other QB on the roster, is third string.

Milton has been getting solid reviews from those in attendance at the Cowboys' training camp thus far in Oxnard, California.

However, now the real truth begins for Milton and every other player looking to cement their status on teams' rosters across the NFL, with preseason action getting underway for the entire league this week. Dallas will face off against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday night in Inglewood, CA to open their slate.
And that will mean the start of a lot of plenty of game action for Milton and Grier, as the duo fights to be the man who's potentially just one play away from taking on the most important position for arguably the biggest name franchise in the league. An important position to be sure, and one, it appears early on, that the former Vols signal caller is in a good position to claim.
