The Dallas Cowboys last played on Jan. 4. They suffered a 34-17 defeat against Jaxson Dart and the New York Giants, marking the end of their disappointing campaign.
The Cowboys finished 7-9-1, second in the NFC East behind the 11-6 Philadelphia Eagles. They ranked 12th in the conference and missed the NFL playoffs for a second consecutive season.
It has not been a month since the Cowboys’ last game, but major changes have already been made within the coaching ranks.
They fired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus just two days after their final game of the season. Several defensive assistants under Eberflus have also been let go.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer is expected to return next season as head coach. He was not able to lead his team to the playoffs in his first year, but there were flashes of brilliance throughout the campaign from the 52-year-old coach.
Schottenheimer is now dealing with an overhaul of his coaching staff. In addition to the changes on defense, Schottenheimer and the Cowboys' front office will need to address some issues on offense.
On Thursday, reports emerged that Dallas had lost its offensive line coach, Ramon Chinyoung. According to Cowboys reporter Clarence Hill Jr., Chinyoung has decided to move on and join former Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Chinyoung leaves the Cowboys after three seasons with the team. He was Dallas’ assistant offensive line coach in 2025. He also served as the offensive line/quality control coach during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Chinyoung played a pivotal role for Dallas’ coaching staff during his time with the team. Over the past three years, he helped develop a collection of young offensive linemen, including key players such as Tyler Smith and Tyler Guyton.
McCarthy was the Cowboys head coach for five seasons before they parted ways in January 2025. Chinyoung served under him for two seasons, and the OL coach clearly left an impression on McCarthy.
After being named as the Steelers’ new head coach, McCarthy has been busy molding his staff in Pittsburgh. He’s successfully poached Chinyoung from his former team. McCarthy has reportedly also requested an interview for Cowboys tight end coach Lunda Wells for a potential offensive coordinator role with the Steelers. At this point, Chinyoung might not be the last coach McCarthy and the Steelers take from Dallas.
