The Dallas Cowboys made waves on Thursday after news broke on their defensive coordinator move. The team recently fired Mike Eberflus after just one season as DC. Eberflus took the fall for all the issues on the offensive end that led to the Cowboys missing the NFL playoffs for the second straight season.
Christian Parker has been named as Eberflus’ successor in Dallas. The Cowboys hired Parker from their bitter rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, where he served as the passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach for the past two seasons.
More changes are now expected under Parker’s DC regime.
Cowboys defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton interviewed for the DC opening before the front office decided to hire Parker. However, after being overlooked for the promotion, Whitecotton could be moving on. According to reports, the Tennessee Titans have requested an interview for Whitecotton for their defensive coordinator position. The Cowboys cannot block this interview since it will be a potential promotion for Whitecotton.
The Titans’ interview request comes after their decision to hire Robert Saleh as their new head coach. Whitecotton served in Saleh’s coaching staff with the New York Jets.
With Whitecotton potentially on the move, Cowboys reporter Todd Archer of ESPN reported on Friday that the team is looking at Marcus Dixon as a potential replacement. The Cowboys are reportedly interviewing Dixon, who has been the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive line coach over the past two seasons.
Prior to his stint in Minnesota, Dixon was a DL coach with the Denver Broncos, where he worked with Parker. Dixon was also the Los Angeles Rams’ assistant DL coach when they won the Super Bowl in 2022.
Dixon has history with the Cowboys. He played for the team as a defensive end between 2008 and 2010. As a player, Dixon also had stints with the Jets, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Titans. His time with the Cowboys, Chiefs and Titans were all either part of the practice squad or the offseason.
