The Dallas Cowboys made a big free agency move following their big Week 2 win over the New York Giants. After trading away Micah Parsons before the season, it was clear that the team needed more pass rushing help.
Jerry Jones was able to work out a deal with veteran pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney. He will join the Cowboys for the rest of the 2025 NFL season. Hopefully, he’ll be able to make an impact on a defense that badly needs it.
Originally drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans, Clowney has had a quality career. However, he has never quite lived up to the hype that surrounded him coming into the NFL.
With that being said, he has still put up solid numbers and has had some big years. Dallas is hoping that he can put together a special season and help lead the team to a deep playoff run.
Unfortunately, the Cowboys received some disappointing news regarding Clowney before Week 3 action against the Chicago Bears.
As shared by Jon Machota of The Athletic, Clowney will be a game-time decision for Sunday’s game against the Bears. However, the bad news is that Dallas is leaning towards him not being available this week.
Clowney will need to ramp up to get back into playing shape. He did not go through training camp or preseason action and missed the first two weeks of the season.
Last year with the Carolina Panthers, the 32-year-old defensive end played in 14 games. He recorded 46 total tackles to go along with 5.5 sacks and four defended passes.
Back in the 2023 campaign with the Baltimore Ravens, Clowney put together one of his best seasons. In 17 regular season games, he racked up 43 tackles, 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and five defended passes.
No one knows exactly what to expect from Clowney with the Cowboys, but he has the ability to be a high-impact player. At the very least, he’s worth taking a flier on. Hopefully, he’s able to get on the field soon and start making a difference for the Dallas defense.
