Dallas Cowboys Hire New Coach on Monday

The Dallas Cowboys have already parted ways with multiple coaches throughout the offseason. The first domino to fall was defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, who was fired just two days after the Cowboys finished the season 7-9-1. Multiple defensive position coaches were also relieved of their duties after Eberflus’s exit.

Eberflus’ successor is Christian Parker, whom Dallas poached from the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys have already signed a couple of new coaches under Parker. Derrick Ansley has been brought on as the new defensive pass game coordinator/defensive backs coach. Dallas also hired Ryan Smith as its new secondary coach.

The Cowboys added another name to the list on Monday. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the front office decided to hire Marcus Dixon as their new defensive line coach.

Dixon is a familiar face for the Cowboys. The former NFL defensive end was part of the squad from 2008 to 2010, although he did not play a single game for the team. Dixon suited up for the New York Jets for three seasons.

After his retirement, Dixon transitioned into coaching. In the NFL, the 41-year-old has had coaching stints with the Los Angeles Rams and the Denver Broncos. He spent the last two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings as their DL coach.

Dixon arrived in Dallas on Friday for his in-person interview. He clearly made an impression on the front office, which eventually hired him as Dallas’ third position coach under Parker.

More coaching changes are expected in the coming days/weeks for the Cowboys as they continue their offseason overhaul. It was also reported on Monday that they interviewed Chidera Uzo-Diribe, a Georgia Bulldogs assistant, for their linebackers coach job opening.
