Dallas Cowboys Named Best Fit For Former All-Pro Pass Rusher

The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best pass rushers in football in Micah Parsons, but once you get past him, the Cowboys’ depth there actually gets fairly thin.

Dallas lost Dorance Armstrong Jr. to free agency, and Dante Fowler also departed.

The Cowboys did draft edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland, and Sam Williams is considered a player to watch heading into next season, but Kneeland is obviously very unproven. Williams is too, to an extent.

That’s why Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team feels that Dallas would be a perfect fit for defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who remains on the free-agent market.

Campbell is coming off of an impressive 2023 campaign with the Atlanta Falcons in which he registered 56 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Yes, he is 37 years old, but he demonstrated this past season that he can still be a disruptive force. As a matter of fact, he led the Falcons in sacks.

Campbell, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

He spent the first nine years of his career with the Cardinals and was a very productive member of the club’s defensive front. However, he didn’t really begin to get recognition until his seventh season, when he made the first of back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances.

Campbell then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017, which was where he really broke out. In his debut campaign with the Jaguars, he racked up 67 tackles, 14.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown en route to another trip to the Pro Bowl and a First-Team All-Pro selection. He also finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.

The Denver native spent three seasons in Jacksonville, making the Pro Bowl each year. He then made his way to the Baltimore Ravens, where he made one more Pro Bowl in three seasons. Campbell joined Atlanta last spring.

Given how productive Campbell still is, it’s odd that he is still available in free agency. Perhaps he is simply waiting for the perfect situation.

He certainly would represent a great signing for a Cowboys squad that has not really made many additions at all this offseason. That’s for sure.
