Dallas Cowboys OTAs should provide early insight into one of the most overlooked questions of the offseason

The Dallas Cowboys are kicking off OTAs this week, an important step of their offseason as they prepare for a 2025 season filled with challenges.

Keep in mind, players don't suit up in this phase of the offseason and there's only a few team drills taking place (which don't happen until Phase 3) and even those are with no live contact allowed.

As such, player evaluation is largely overrated this time of the year. However, OTAs usually provides key insights via comments made by players, coaches, and insiders. Below are three storylines to keep an eye out for.

Dak Prescott's health

There's no question Prescott will be ready for the season following a season-ending hamstring injury suffered in November. We've already seen offseason clips of him throwing and moving around and he looks just fine. But will the Cowboys take it particularly easy on their soon-to-be 32 years old quarterback?

We'll see what insiders have to say as practices gear up this month.

How serious are the Cowboys about shaking up the offensive line?

This might be the most overlooked storyline of the offseason. The Cowboys seem to be fixated in playing Tyler Booker at right guard but the new coaching staff has yet to rule out any shakeups on the left side of the offensive line. Specifically, where they plan to play second-team All-Pro left guard Tyler Smith, who has also played left tackle successfully for the team.

Tyler Guyton's development could go a long way in determining that and I don't expect any serious competition to happen until training camp, but the OL combos the Cowboys use in OTAs could tell us if they're looking into every option or if Smith is set in stone at guard.

Who is getting first-team reps at cornerback?

With Trevon Diggs rehabbing from injury and Jourdan Lewis signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March, only DaRon Bland is a lock to start for the Cowboys at cornerback. Who will join him? My early bet is on Caelen Carson manning the slot and former first-round draft pick Kaiir Elam staying on the outside. But first-team looks at OTAs could tell us a thing or two about who else is in the mix.

Can the re-signed Israel Mukuamu emerge as a contender at nickel? What about one of the talented rookies like the versatile Alijah Clark out of Syracuse?

Third-round draft pick Shavon Revel Jr. isn't expected to take the field until training camp.
