Dallas Cowboys sign Daron Bland to 4-year, $92 million contract extension

The Dallas Cowboys signed CB Daron Bland to a new contract extension, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. It is a four-year, $92 million extension.

“Sources: The Cowboys and standout CB Daron Bland have agreed to terms on a big new contract extension, as Dallas locks up a key defender,” Rapoport wrote on Twitter/X. “It’s a 4-year, $92M extension for Bland done by agent Josh Arnold, a deal that includes $50M guaranteed.”

Bland was originally holding out hope that he would get a contract extension before the season. With the opener against the Philadelphia Eagles just four days away, he got his wish.

Bland was set to be a free agent at the end of the year. His emergence with the Cowboys has been huge over the last couple of years and the role is only expected to grow. The cornerback position is a major question mark right now for Dallas due to a good number of injuries.

Right now, Bland is one of the lone healthy veteran players on the roster. Entering his fourth NFL season, Bland has played in 41 games with 30 starts.

Talking about his career stats without highlighting the record-setting 2023 is almost impossible. Of Bland’s nine interceptions, five of them turned into touchdowns. Thanksgiving Day against the Washington Commanders put him in the all-time solo lead, a great moment for him and the franchise.

Five more interceptions were recorded as a rookie, bringing his career total to 14. None popped up on the stat sheet in 2024 but the cornerback only played in seven games due to injury.

Bland’s contract extension is kind of ironic considering Micah Parsons’ demand for a new one with the team. Dallas opted to trade him to the Green Bay Packers, who gave Parsons his new deal.

Once word started getting out the Cowboys were considering a trade, Parsons said he felt appreciation right away from the Green Bay fan base. Especially considering their passion for their team, the star pass-rusher said he wants that to translate to his game, as well.

“I’m like you guys,” Parsons said. “When it came out that I possibly was going to get traded – I’m on socials like you guys, and I see Packer Nation going crazy. I never really knew how crazy the fan base was and how excited this fan base gets. Obviously, I’ve played here before, but you don’t really take it in. Especially with the Dallas fan base, they’re pretty intense, too. But just seeing the fan base and how they’re all encouragement or excited, they couldn’t wait to have me here. That means a lot. I carry that on my shoulder, too. This isn’t just for me.

“And understanding the history about no owner and how this is all fan and everything gets poured back into this, that means so much. I’m gonna carry that and I know they’re part of the 111th now, too.”
