Dallas Cowboys’ Solomon Thomas Mourns Marshawn Kneeland in Emotional Tribute

Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Solomon Thomas shared a heartfelt tribute to teammate Marshawn Kneeland in a social media post following the latter’s death on Thursday.

Thomas, who joined the Cowboys this past offseason, shared a picture of Kneeland on his Instagram story. The 24-year-old Kneeland died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Thursday morning.

“Brother Marshawn, I love you,” Thomas wrote. “I wish you knew it was going to be okay. I wish you knew the pain wouldn’t last and how loved you are. I wish you knew how bad we wanted you to stay.”

Thomas also shared the phone numbers for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Frisco police announced Thursday that they are investigating Kneeland’s death as a possible suicide.

“Please know there is always help and hope,” Thomas said. “Whatever storm you’re going through, it’s okay to feel that pain. It’s okay not to be okay. But the light will come.”

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott told CBS News Texas that he had a “heavy, heavy heart” upon learning of Kneeland’s passing. Prescott and Kneeland played together the last two seasons after Dallas selected the latter with a 2024 second-round pick.

“I hurt for Marshawn,” Prescott said. “I hurt for his family, I hurt for his girlfriend, and I hurt for every single one of my teammates. This is a pain you don’t wish upon anybody.”

Former Cowboys defensive star Micah Parsons wrote, “I’m sorry little brother. I hope you find peace,” on his Instagram story. Cowboys linebacker Juanyeh Thomas said he was “sick” in an X/Twitter post.

Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence overlapped with Kneeland on the Cowboys last season. Although Lawrence admitted he didn’t spend much time with Kneeland, he nonetheless enjoyed their interactions.

“I know he loved the game, man,” Lawrence told reporters. “He loved to smile. He loved interacting with his teammates. ... But he was a fun young guy, man. I loved being around him. He’s going to be missed very well.”

“YOU ARE NOT ALONE! ” Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro offensive lineman Lane Johnson wrote on X/Twitter.

The NFL said the league has offered support and counseling resources to the Cowboys, who are on their bye week.
