The Dallas Cowboys will be featured on this season’s “Hard Knocks” for NFL training camp, marking the third time HBO and NFL Films selected one of the most popular teams in sports for the summer hit.

While an official announcement is expected later, both The Washington Post and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the upcoming Cowboys’ training camp will be the focal point of this season’s five-episode series.

“Hard Knocks” which first premiered in 2001, first put the spotlight on the Dallas Cowboys in 2002. The iconic NFL series returned to the franchise in 2008, before alternating between 12 different teams since the 2009 season.

The decision isn’t surprising, given what unfolded last year. HBO featured two teams for the first time in 2020, focusing on the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. Due to COVID-19, the absence of preseason games and the choice of teams, it was the least-watched season in the show’s history.

  • Hard Knocks 2021 season premiere: Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 10 p.m. EST

There will be no shortage of storylines for HBO to follow in camp. Dak Prescott is returning from a gruesome knee injury, head coach Mike McCarthy is entering a pivotal season and expectations are once again high for one of the best offenses in the NFL.
