The Philadelphia Eagles, fresh off their Super Bowl LIX victory, are looking to run it back in 2025, but as every champion knows, repeating is never easy.
This offseason, the Eagles have zeroed in on one core theme: how to build lasting success. And to do that, they’ve looked beyond their own locker room for insight, turning to voices who’ve been there before, like Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning.
Tight end Dallas Goedert revealed on a recent episode of Takeoff with John Clark that he and several teammates had a private Zoom session with Manning to pick his brain and gain perspective.
“I would just say that it takes the work every day and you have to find little nuances,” Goedert said to Clark. “One thing I found was interesting was he would make fake quotes and put them in the locker room because nobody was saying that they were bad or they could beat them so he put, ‘(my receiver) can’t get off of press’ and he’d put that in his receiver’s locker. ‘Are you serious? He said that?’ And it’s just finding different ways to keep yourself motivated when the negative isn’t coming at you.”
Manning is one of the most successful quarterbacks in NFL history. Over an 18-season NFL career, he won two Super Bowls, earned a league record five MVP awards, and set numerous passing records, including most career touchdown passes. His leadership and consistency made him a defining figure of his era and a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
While Manning's message may have stated the obvious, it's exactly the kind of reminder Goedert and the rest of the Eagles need as they gear up for another run at the Lombardi Trophy.
“As a team, we’re all hungry to get back and we know that it’s not just going to be given to us,” Goedert said. “It’s going to be even harder than it was last year because we are defending it. We just need to find ways to stay hungry, stay fresh and keep putting the pedal to the metal.”
