Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is coming off an impressive season in his third year with the team. Williams took a huge leap forward in 2024, recording a 1,000-plus receiving yards season with seven touchdown catches.

Heading into the 2025 season, Williams is looking to continue to improve and be a reliable receiver for the Lions' offense alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown. Since the Lions opened up training camp on July 19th, Williams has made great strides that will prove to have a significant impact on Detroit's offense this season.

Dan Campbell impressed with Jamo's development

The Lions were confident that they had a special talent at wide receiver when Detroit traded up to draft Williams with the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Williams only played in six games in his rookie season after tearing his ACL in the National Championship game for Alabama.

In his second season, Williams played in 12 games for the Lions, recording 354 yards and two touchdowns on 24 catches. His jump from 354 receiving yards to over 1,000 was one of the impressive highlights of the Lions' 15-2 season that featured a second straight NFC North division title.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell has been impressed with the continued growth of Williams throughout training camp through 1-on-1 reps.

"The discipline of his routes, the strength that he's obtained, the explosiveness, he's starting to figure it out," said Campbell. "He's starting to figure out his body, what he can do; he's much more detailed. He's beginning to tap into what he has."

Williams has shown off his talents as a runner

While Williams has shown great progress during training camp, there is still so much that he can improve on with the Lions' 2025 season, a little over a month away. Not only has Williams been excellent in the receiving category for the Lions, but he has also been excellent at rushing for the Lions.

Last season, Williams recorded 61 rushing yards in the regular season. He also recorded a 61-yard rushing touchdown in the Lions 45-31 loss to the Commanders in the NFC Divisional Round. Campbell said that Williams has always been a head hunter and wants him to stick to that philosophy this season

"That's one of the things I've loved about him, when he was coming out," said Campbell. "We want that ascension, that's what you do, but don't let that part slip either. We got some runners that can take it to the house, finish, and do your job."
