Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is never afraid to be aggressive.
On Sunday, Campbell went for it on 4th-and-1 in a tie game against the Green Bay Packers, even though the Lions had the ball on their own 24-yard line. The play was stuffed, and Green Bay took over in field goal range. Yet, somehow, Detroit walked away with a 20-17 win, although Campbell’s decision was certainly puzzling.
On Monday, the Lions coach gave his reasoning for the decision.
“I know what you’re conceding, but I also know without any doubt that we’re getting the ball back with plenty of time to answer and rebut whatever they’ve done. It was really that simple,” Campbell said, via Ari Meirov.

After the turnover on downs, the Packers attempted a field goal on that drive, but it was blocked by the Lions in a heroic play by Trey Smack.
In the end, Jake Bates hit the 22-yard game-winning field goal, although Campbell’s decision definitely left many scratching their heads.
The Lions are now 4-2 on the season, and they will face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8, who happen to be the NFL’s last remaining undefeated team.
