Dan Orlovsky expands on claim about Patriots' Bill Belichick

Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN personality Dan Orlovsky raised eyebrows during a Tuesday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" when he said he'd recently "heard more and more" that head coach Bill Belichick will leave the New England Patriots after this season and has his desired next job "kind of determined, as well." 

Orlovsky expanded on his claim while speaking on the WEEI "Jones & Mego With Arcand" program on Wednesday afternoon. 

"I heard a couple different places that were potentially attached," Orlovsky explained, according to Sean T. McGuire of NESN. "They’re not going to be shocking to anybody 'cause they’re places that have had question marks at the head coach attached to them throughout this season, I would say. So it’s not all that, again, if you sit down and say, 'What teams do we think at least maybe entertain moving on from their coach?' It’s not all that impossible to connect some dots, you know?" 

While Patriots owner Robert Kraft didn't immediately fire Belichick after the club entered the bye week at 2-8, it's widely thought the two will agree in January a parting of the ways is best for all involved. It was previously suggested that the Washington Commanders could attempt to trade for Belichick's services, but it's unclear if Washington will want to replace both head coach Ron Rivera and offensive coordinator/assistant head coach Eric Bieniemy this winter. 

The 4-6 Commanders next host the 2-8 New York Giants this coming Sunday. 

"I think there’s organizations that are going to have decisions to be made," Orlovsky continued. "I would say this, if I was an organization and I was going to move on from my coach, or end up moving on from my coach, and I know Bill Belichick has the potential to be a part of that coaching cycle conversation, I would certainly want to make a call. Of course." 

Per Conor Ryan of Boston.com, former Patriots cornerback Jason McCourty said during a Wednesday morning appearance on NFL Network he doesn't believe Belichick will retire ahead of the coach's 72nd birthday he'll celebrate this coming April. 

Fellow former New England defensive back Devin McCourty, Jason's twin brother, predicted during a different WEEI interview that Belichick will stay with the Patriots through at least the start of next season.
