While Dan Orlovsky may not have had the most memorable playing career, the former NFL quarterback is making a name for himself as one of the top football analysts at ESPN.
During an interview on “the Pat McAfee Show” on Monday, Orlovsky admitted that the longer he’s retired, the more he gets the itch to leave the television studio and return to the sidelines as a coach.
“I hope that I do a good enough job on television that (I’m linked to coaching jobs every year), yeah,” Orlovsky said. “The farther I get removed from playing, which is like five years now, the more I want to do it. I came really close this year. I had some good conversations with Indy. I came really close with another team. It was out there, I mean, Carolina I come really close with.”
This isn’t the first time Orlovsky has been a reported candidate for coaching jobs. He spoke to the Green Bay Packers about a role in 2019 and he received significant interest from multiple teams in 2020.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported in mid-February that the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers had both expressed interest in adding Orlovsky to their offensive coaching staffs.
The 39-year-old Orlovsky played 11 years in the NFL with the Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had a 2-10 record as a starter, passing for 3,132 yards, 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his career.
