Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn sat down to talk about the potential of his wide receiver room in 2025 and break down some film in the process.

The Washington Commanders are hoping to have an even better offense this year than they had in 2024. Jayden Daniels is going into his second season as the franchise quarterback, and the front office has done some impressive work to surround him with playmakers.

Dan Quinn praises the wide receivers’ competitiveness, as well as Deebo Samuel’s connection with Daniels

The Washington Commanders are all in on their franchise quarterback, and after his rookie season, they have every right to be.

Commanders GM Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn have put their full focus into building talent around Daniels, including both the offensive line and the wide receiver room.

Peters made trades for tackle Laremy Tunsil and wide receiver Deebo Samuel during the offseason, and both bring tremendous experience to the offensive side of the ball.

Now that the Commanders have signed Terry McLaurin to a three-year, $96 million extension, the entire WR group is finally working together to prepare for the season ahead.

In a recent interview on the Washington Commanders YouTube channel, Dan Quinn explained his excitement about the group going into the season:

“Today was really cool, to see the combination of Noah Brown, Deebo, and Terry, and then Jaylin (Lane), just interacting, drill work, in reps, featuring guys in different ways.”

He continued: “Talking about Noah, Deebo, and Terry. These are three of the most competitive people you’d want to be around. So everything gets elevated, which is a ton of fun too.”

The Commanders have been without Terry McLaurin for all of training camp, as the wide receiver held out for his long-awaited contract extension.

The coaching staff was frustrated that the offense had to spend so much time without their star receiver, and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury spoke about the urgency of getting McLaurin back on the field.

That said, Quinn did explain that McLaurin’s absence and Noah Brown’s injury meant Daniels got a lot of work in with the new acquisition in Deebo Samuel.

“If there’s a silver lining in Noah and Terry not playing as much, it was all the extra time he did get with Deebo. That’s one of the things that’s a real benefit, to say throughout the offseason and training camp, Deebo was at every practice, every OTA, and so he’s also really risen in the offense.”

There is a belief that Jayden Daniels could be even better this season, after stunning the league with his performance as the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024.

The playmakers around him will contribute to that, and trying to defend all of those stars, as well as Daniels himself, is going to be extremely challenging.

Deebo Samuel’s playstyle should elevate the Commanders’ offense in 2025

Later in the episode, Quinn stepped up to break down some film from the preseason, including a jet sweep to Deebo Samuel against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Quinn praised the effort of his blockers to ‘sprint off the ball’ and go out and block, including the rookie right tackle, Josh Conerly Jr.

Logan Paulsen brought up the physicality and contact balance that Samuel plays with, to which Quinn replied:

“There’s a violence that he plays with, it’s his catches, his runs, down the field.”

The Commanders are hoping Deebo Samuel will add another element to their offense this season, giving defenses another problem to try and solve.
