The Indianapolis Colts’ 2025 season has been defined by steady quarterback play and a revived offense under Daniel Jones. After several inconsistent years with the New York Giants and a short stint on the Minnesota Vikings, Jones has rediscovered his form in Indianapolis, helping the team to a 7-2 start.

On Tuesday, the team doubled down on its upward trajectory by acquiring star cornerback Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets, signaling a clear win-now approach.

The move strengthens an already competitive defense and hints that the front office is determined to maximize its championship window. Gardner, a two-time All-Pro, brings elite coverage skills that could elevate Indianapolis’ secondary as the season intensifies.

According to Spotrac, the Colts picking up Gardner’s three-and-a-half-year guaranteed contract suggests the franchise is planning beyond this season — and that includes quarterback Daniel Jones. The report noted that Indianapolis’ investment in Gardner is “a signal that Daniel Jones is more than a rental option, and a pay day is forthcoming.”

Jones is on a one-year, $14 million deal ($6 million guaranteed) signed in March, but his strong play could soon earn him an extension.

Through nine weeks, Jones has thrown for 2,404 yards, 14 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 69.6% of his passes. His efficiency and composure have silenced many of the doubts that followed him from New York, and he has quickly established himself as a stabilizing presence in Indianapolis.

The Colts now turn their attention to Week 10, where they’ll face the Atlanta Falcons in Berlin, Germany. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 am ET on NFL Network.
