Daniel Jones reveals true feelings on Giants’ Drake Maye pursuit

In the weeks leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft, the New York Giants were deemed a candidate to trade up for top quarterback prospect Drake Maye. While that plan didn’t come to fruition, fellow quarterback Daniel Jones is well aware of the implications.

The Giants ended up staying put at No. 6 and taking wide receiver Malik Nabers. May went No. 3 to the New England Patriots. With a new weapon to throw to rather than a replacement in the QB room, Jones is ready to get back to work and prove he belongs under center in New York, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

“Yeah, I wasn’t fired up about it,” Jones said of the Giants taking a QB in the first round. “I think it’s part of it at this level. What I can do is focus on myself. Getting healthy and playing the best football that I can play, and that I know I’m capable of playing. That is my job and that is what I’m going to do.”

Jones missed the majority of the 2024 season with an ACL tear. However, he didn’t exactly give New York much confidence when he was on the field. Over six games Jones went 1-5, throwing for 909 yards two touchdowns and six interceptions.

After his injury, New York turned to Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito, neither proving to be the answer at quarterback. Taking a quarterback like Maye would’ve given the Giants a completely different outlook at the position.

However, either the Patriots’ price was too high or the Giants ultimately balked at the idea. Daniel Jones will enter the 2024 season as the starter. But another down year could have New York looking at quarterbacks in 2025
