Veteran cornerback Darius Slay has made the decision to officially call it a career. After an interesting end to the 2025 season where he was waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers and claimed by the Buffalo Bills, Slay refused to report and play there. He would wind up appearing to watch the Philadelphia Eagles, a team he also played for, on the sidelines during their playoff game. Let’s take a closer look at what we know.
Darius Slay took to social media to make the news official as he is retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons. Below is the post he wrote to let the fans know:
“Dear football, I wanna thank you for all you’ve done for me. I’ve been blessed to play the game I loved since I was 5 years old for an amazing 13 yrs at the highest level. Football was my peace, my joy, everything. This game put me in a position to help take care of my family and loved ones and I’m forever grateful.
“It’s hard to say goodbye, but God has a new chapter for me and I’m ready to turn the page and start my new journey. To all my BigPlay fans, I will always appreciate the love and support y’all have given to me. I couldn’t have done it without you. Just A kid from Brunswick, GA with BIG dreams… BigPlay on and off the field! We Out.”
Darius Slay would play 13 seasons with the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, and Pittsburgh Steelers throughout his career. He finished with six Pro Bowls, one first-team All-Pro, and a Super Bowl championship. In 187 career games, he would have 28 interceptions (three touchdowns), 163 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries. It will be interesting if he is stepping away from football completely or if he will be involved in the game from a coaching/front office role in the future.
