Darius Slay's contract with Eagles more team-friendly than originally thought

Darius Slay's contract with the Philadelphia Eagles was originally thought to be one of the biggest deals a cornerback has ever seen.

As it turns out, Slay's deal is more team-friendly than originally reported. Here's a chart that maps out Slay's extension with the Eagles, according to OverTheCap.com.

His annual value is only about $16 million, and the Eagles aren't actually committed to Slay past the 2021 season. They can move on from him before his age 31 season in 2022.

Here’s a summary of the contract:

  • 2020: $1.05 million base salary ($4.3 million cap hit)
  • 2021: $12 million base salary ($15.75 million cap hit)
  • 2022: $16 million base salary ($19.75 million cap hit)
  • 2023: $17 million base salary ($20.75 million cap hit)

If Slay ends up remaining with the Eagles through the entirety of this deal, it'll likely mean he's playing at a high level, even when he reaches his 30s, making it a win for Philadelphia.
