There was a lot of concern after Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney left the first day of training camp visibly shaken up, and those concerns only magnified when the team signed DJ Chark yesterday.
Fortunately, it appears the panic was premature. According to Zach Klein, Mooney is dealing with a shoulder injury that will keep him sidelined for most of training camp, but he’s expected to return before Week 1.

This is obviously tremendous news for the Falcons. Darnell Mooney was a breakout star in his first year with the team, falling just eight yards shy of 1,000 receiving yards. Alongside Drake London, the duo ranked among the league’s most productive receiving tandems — and with Michael Penix Jr. now under center, expectations are even higher entering 2025.
The addition of DJ Chark only bolsters an already talented group, giving Penix another explosive option on the outside. With this collection of playmakers, the Falcons offense has all the makings of an elite unit.
