The Washington Commanders won't be a surprise that teams don't see coming next time around. That hasn't stopped analysts around the media from projecting another profitable campaign from head coach Dan Quinn's squad in 2025.
Reaching the feats attained in Year 1 under Quinn's guidance will be difficult. The Commanders took the league by storm en route to 12 regular-season wins and a trip to the NFC Championship game. They were eventually undone by the Philadelphia Eagles, but that doesn't detract from the drastic turnaround and its potential significance moving forward.
Adam Peters worked hard this offseason to ensure the same trend continues. From blockbuster trades, shrewd free-agent signings, notable re-signings, and high-value draft picks, the Commanders have improved. Whether they've closed the gap much on Philadelphia remains to be seen, but it'll be fun finding out before the heated division rivals lock horns twice in the final three weeks of 2025.
Cynthia Frelund, the resident analytics expert at the NFL Network, offered a promising outlook for the Commanders in 2025. She had Washington at 10.2 wins of thereabouts, placing them second within the NFC with only the Eagles ahead of them. The analyst also thought a crucial stretch before their international game against the Miami Dolphins will play a leading role in whatever success comes their way.
Through Week 7, the Commanders are forecasted to be atop the NFC East. At that point, they will reach what could be a major turning point for their season: a Monday Night Football game in Kansas City in Week 8, followed by back-to-back home contests against the Seahawks and Lions. Washington can secure its best chance of outlasting the Eagles in the division by winning at least two of those three games. In other words, the Commanders can really set themselves up well ahead of their Week 11 game against Miami in Madrid, Spain.Cynthia Frelund
Nobody would be complaining if the Commanders had the second-best record in the conference. It might not get them an NFC East championship, but it'll make them a force to be reckoned with once again in the playoffs.
That's the primary objective. The Commanders are also battle-hardened from their deep postseason run last time around. If they get to the same point in 2025, everyone will be better prepared to cope with the spotlight glaring.
There's a chance Washington could regress. Positivity is high, but they have extra obstacles to overcome. Having eight standalone games is the biggest test. If they can navigate this successfully and come out of four-straight divisional contests to conclude the campaign with credit, they'll be right in the mix.
Fleeting success counts for nothing if it cannot be sustained. However, the Commanders have enough to reach the upper echelons and stay there next season.
