Davante Adams landing spots, including the Packers, three West Coast teams, and a perfect football fit

When the New York Jets acquired Davante Adams ahead of the trade deadline, it was Always probable that it would be a half season rent. He has two years left on his contract, but they have inflated $36.25 million salaries to elevate his yearly average.

Barring a renegotiation, a release will eventually happen. And after the Jets decided to move on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, keeping Adams makes even less sense.

Now, it's time to discuss Davante Adams' options elsewhere if the Jets do the expected and release him.

Green Bay Packers

This might not be the most likely outcome, but it's an obvious option because of Adams' lasting relationship with the franchise. Adams has already indicated he would be open to a reunion, and players like Josh Jacobs and Jordan Love expressed the desire to have the veteran receiver back in Green Bay. The Packers also have a need at wide receiver, especially because Christian Watson is expected to miss significant time with an ACL injury.

San Francisco 49ers

Now, we enter the West Coast options. When Adams left Green Bay in 2022, he expressed the desire to move West to be close to his family. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, this would be an option again. And with Deebo Samuel wanting out via trade, the 49ers could be open to add a top weapon like Adams, even though he's older. Davante has played under Matt LaFleur, so he already has a strong knowledge of Kyle Shanahan's system.

Los Angeles Rams

Most of the reasons for the 49ers to sign Adams also apply to the Rams. West Coast, knowledge of Sean McVay's system, and the Rams want to trade Cooper Kupp. At this point, Davante would probably be a cheaper option than Kupp, and he showed last year for the Jets that he can still be truly productive. Thinking about a Matthew Stafford-Davante Adams duo is exciting.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers hit a home run drafting Ladd McConkey, but adding another top weapon to Justin Herbert would have the potential to put the Chargers offense on another level. And they badly need it. Greg Roman likes to run the ball a lot, but with these types of offensive players it would be easier to lean on the pass and make the offense more explosive and fun.

Washington Commanders

The Commanders are not on the West Coast, but they are the perfect option on a football level. The team has $75 million in cap space, so it has the financial flexibility to make the strongest offer. At the same time, general manager Adam Peters will want to put quarterback Jayden Daniels in the best possible situation during his rookie contract after a strong first season in the NFL, and adding Adams to play alongside Terry McLaurin would be a big step.

Honorable mention: Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are betting favorites to land Aaron Rodgers. And if that ends up being the case, it would make total sense to get the complete package and sign Davante Adams as well. He would be the perfect complement to George Pickens’ style, and could even help the young receiver to develop because of his work ethic and football IQ.
