Davante Adams has been around a few teams ever since he packed up and left Wisconsin. He went to the Las Vegas Raiders, before finding himself in New York, and now finally he's joined the Los Angeles Rams.
However, the Rams already possess a stellar pass-catcher in Puka Nacua, and there was a chance that things could get awkward between the young star and the veteran legend. But that did not happen as the 24-year-old had seemingly prepared a heartfelt gesture for Adams.
Talking to the media after a training session on Saturday, Adams addressed the interaction with Nacua.
The 24-year-old asked Adams if he'd like to lead the positional drills instead of Nacua. The former Green Bay Packers WR revealed that at first, he laughed out loud at the manner in which he was honored.
Adams said, "Well, I laughed at it first because he was saying it like he had wanted to say it for a long time, but he didn't really know how to say that. You know he was obviously trying to honor me, trying to honor him, I guess, making sure he didn't feel like I was trying to step on his toes or anything, trying to bump him to number two in line."
It was important for Nacua to let Adams know he's the senior-most WR and should be treated as such.
It set the tone right for the LA Rams wide receivers room, which is seeing a transitional phase as Cooper Kupp is out and Adams is in, while Nacua is the star the team is building for.
Adams revealed he doesn't care about where he stands in line; it is just about getting the work in. But then in the practice session, he was talking to the other receivers, and it was difficult to first communicate and then show, so it was better for the drill that he goes first and shows what he's talking about.
