David Pollack Addresses Pat McAfee's Rumored Involvement in ESPN Departure

Among the casualties of ESPN's mass layoffs in 2023 was beloved college football analyst David Pollack.

The former All-American linebacker at Georgia and first-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft had been with ESPN for 15 years, and was one of the many bright spots on ESPN's "College GameDay."

Unfortunately, ESPN felt it was best to go their separate ways, while also plugging wildcard Pat McAfee into Pollack's place on the panel with Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, and Reece Davis.

While some may think that there's animosity between Pollack and McAfee, he confirmed to On3's Pete Nakos that's not the case.

“That’s a topic that people always want to bring up, but I don’t feel like that was Pat’s fault,” Pollack said. “Pat was hired to do a job, just like I would have been called in to do a job. I don’t feel like Pat was the reason, no. They hired Pat, and Pat is really good at what he does, very different, very unique. A lot of times, when you’re spending a lot of money on a show, there are also levels to who’s important and who’s not. I wasn’t on the right side of that. That also happens in every business across the country every year.”

While Nakos confirmed that Pollack has been receiving offers from other companies, the former linebacker didn't reveal from whom. Instead, he shared that he has been coaching his kids in both basketball and football.

Pollack has also been staying in the college football space with his podcast  “See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack,” where he frequently interviews some of the biggest names in college football.

While he admitted he misses hanging out with the crew with whom he worked for 15 years, this next chapter of his life allows him to be more present with his family. There could be a world where Pollack makes his return, but it seems for now, things are just fine.
