David Pollack Names Best Atmosphere in College Football

There are a lot of great college football games for fans to choose from in Week 5, but only a few are under the lights.

There is the No. 4 LSU Tigers taking on the No. 13 Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford, and "College GameDay" went to State College for the epic Big Ten meeting between the No. 6 Oregon Ducks and No. 3 Penn State Nittany Lions.

Another game in the SEC worth watching is round two between Kirby Smart and Kalen DeBoer in Athens, Georgia. No. 17 Alabama (2-1) visits No. 5 Georgia (3-0) again after handing the Bulldogs a 41-34 loss last season.

College football analyst David Pollack told CBS Sports that the atmosphere between the hedges is the best in college football and will make a big difference.

"Being at home," said Pollack, a former defensive star at Georgia. "When you're at home and they're on a silent count. When you got those people going crazy, and it's a night game, and it's the best atmosphere in college football. It's the nation's longest winning streak at home."

Pollack is not wrong about how insane Sanford Stadium can get, but even more so at night for opposing teams. He is also not wrong about how dominant the Bulldogs have been there.

Georgia has won 33 consecutive games at home and 20 against SEC foes. The last time Georgia lost at home was in a 20-17 double-overtime defeat against the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2019.

Smart is still searching for his first win over DeBoer. Last season's game had no shortage of offense, with both teams recording over 500 total yards. Then-Georgia quarterback Carson Beck had 439 passing yards, and Alabama's Jalen Milroe threw for 374.

Alabama leads the all-time series 44-26-4 heading into Saturday night. Two of the last four meetings between the storied programs have been in the SEC Championship Game.

Kickoff for Alabama-Georgia will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
