The College Football Playoff quarterfinals have begun, with only one game remaining to finalize the four teams for the semifinals.
One of the most anticipated games of this round was between the No. 1 seed Oregon Ducks (13-1) and the No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes (12-2). This matchup was a rematch of a regular-season game in which Oregon narrowly won 32-31 at home.
However, this time, the game played out very differently. The Buckeyes jumped to a commanding 34-0 lead and never looked back, ultimately winning 41-21. This victory marks the Buckeyes' second 20+ point win in the playoffs, as they had previously defeated the No. 9 Tennessee Volunteers (10-3) 42-17 in the first round.
These last two performances have led David Pollack to state on his YouTube channel, "David Pollack College Football," that there is a new, most dominant team in college football.
"Oregon, by far the most dominant team in the regular season," Pollack said. "Ohio State has taken that mantle and ran with it after demolishing Tennessee and demolishing Oregon in the Rose Bowl."
The Buckeyes displayed a strong and balanced performance against the Ducks, totaling 500 yards of offense and allowing just 276 yards on defense. Quarterback Will Howard excelled again, completing 17-of-26 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns. Additionally, the Buckeyes had a successful day on the ground, rushing for 181 yards and scoring two touchdowns, with TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins each gaining more than 80 yards.
The Buckeyes' defense effectively contained a top-25 offense, with the Ducks recording -23 rushing yards and star receiver Tez Johnson finishing with just 32 yards on five receptions.
Now, the Buckeyes are gearing up for a semifinal matchup against the No. 5 Texas Longhorns (13-2) at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN on Jan. 10.
