There seems to be something special happening in Columbus, Ohio. Last season, the Ohio State Buckeyes had an incredible journey and won the College Football Playoff. They have continued their success this season with a perfect 4-0 start and are ranked No. 1 in the nation.
The Buckeyes moved into the top position in the rankings after defeating the preseason No. 1 Texas Longhorns, 14-7, at home. On the show "See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack," the college football analyst did not rank the Buckeyes as his top team; instead, he went with the No. 3 Miami Hurricanes, but he did make a bold statement about them.
"Ohio State, to me, probably the most feared team," Pollack said. "When you look at the weapons, when you look at how they play offense consistently. Going on the road at Washington, that place is rocking, it's awesome. One of the best atmospheres in college football. Here's one thing I know about Ohio State... I think Ohio State has the best defense in the country."
Ryan Day's team is led by redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Sayin, who has thrown for 987 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions, while completing 78.8% of his passes. Ohio State also boasts two of the best players in college football: wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who has recorded 396 yards and four touchdowns, and safety Caleb Downs, who has made 15 tackles and one interception.
The team also features a promising young running back, freshman Bo Jackson, who has accumulated 297 yards and one touchdown, averaging an impressive 8.5 yards per carry. While the offensive performance has been noteworthy, analyst Pollack is particularly impressed with the defense. The Buckeyes rank No. 8 in total defense, No. 27 in rushing defense, No. 8 in passing yards allowed and they boast the top ranking in scoring defense.
Ohio State entered the season with high expectations, but the way they’ve responded after a national championship has analysts like Pollack even more convinced that this team is built for another deep run. With a young quarterback thriving, an elite set of weapons and a defense that Pollack calls the best in the country, the Buckeyes may not just be the most feared team in college football; they could be on their way to building a dynasty.
