While the Big Ten and SEC have found a way to receive positive press from just about anyone and everyone associated with ESPN, David Pollack does things a little differently.
In a recent conversation on the See Ball Get Ball Podcast, Pollack called out the Big Ten for their extreme commitment to playing their biggest games at noon rather than at night.
“It doesn’t make sense, but the Big Ten scheduling — the Big Ten prohibits this,” Pollack said. “They don’t let their teams play night games during the season. They don’t do prime-time night games. They haven’t done that.”
The Big Ten fielding the majority of their big games at noon stems from their connection to FOX Sports and their Big Noon Kickoff package. The topic came up when discussing the Week One kickoff game between Texas and Ohio State, a game that’s set to be one of the first games of the day.
The concept also stems from College GameDay’s infatuation with the SEC. Primarily, SEC games are chosen for ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast, which leaves the Big Ten likely kicking off at Big Noon.
Pollack finished his comments with a brutally honest assessment, saying, “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard, ever. That doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t understand that. And it’s a thing. It’s a real thing. It’s not like that’s not like I’m making that up.”
