On the first day of athletic testing at the NFL Combine there were many defensive linemen and linebackers who helped their draft stock with good performances. Here are some of the biggest standouts from the first day of athletic testing at the NFL Combine.
Sonny Styles had one of the greatest combine performances of all time. He is a linebacker with elite size at 6-foot-5 and 244 pounds with 32 7/8 inch arm length, and he also ran faster than all linebackers at the combine this year with a 4.46 40-yard dash time. Styles also had the best broad jump of any linebacker at the combine this year, with an 11-foot-2 broad jump, and he recorded the best vertical jump from a linebacker in NFL Combine history with a 43.50-inch vertical. He recorded an unofficial 9.99 relative athletic score. Styles has a great chance to be a top-10 pick in the draft, and with his performance at the combine, he could have a chance at going in the top five of the draft.
Jacob Rodriguez had elite production in college, but is also a slightly undersized linebacker who had some concerns about his athletic upside before the combine. However, at the combine Rodriguez had one of the most impressive performances of any linebacker in this year’s class. He ran a 4.57 40-yard dash, with a 38.5-inch vertical jump, and a 10-foot-1 broad jump. Rodriguez also had the best 3-cone time of any linebacker at 6.90 seconds, and was tied for the best shuttle time as well at 4.19 seconds. With a great performance at the combine that resulted in an unofficial 9.52 relative athletic score, Rodriguez has a chance to potentially be a top-50 pick in the draft.
Malachi Lawrence did well across the board at the NFL Combine. He finished in the top three at his position in the 40-yard dash, 10-yard split, vertical jump, and broad jump. With a 40-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump, Lawrence is an incredibly explosive athlete, and with his combine performance, has a good chance to potentially go on Day 2 of the draft.
Caleb Banks is a big defensive tackle who measured in at 6-foot-6 and 327 pounds. He also has an 85 3/4-inch wingspan, the longest wingspan of any defensive tackle at the combine since 1999. At his size, Banks ran a 5.04 40-yard dash time. He recorded an impressive 32-inch vertical as well, and his 9-foot-6 broad jump was tied for second best at his position at the combine. Banks scored an unofficial 9.87 relative athletic score, and with his athletic upside, could potentially go in the first-round of the draft.
DeMonte Capehart is a defensive tackle with great size at 6-foot-5 and 313 pounds. Capehart had one of the top 40-yard dash times of any defensive lineman at 4.85 seconds. He had an impressive 33.50-inch vertical jump as well. Capehart proved he has a great combination of size, speed, and explosiveness, scoring an unofficial 9.97 relative athletic score.
Kaleb Proctor is undersized, but he showed he is also one of the most athletic defensive linemen in the 2026 draft class. His 4.79 40-yard dash time and 1.68-second 10-yard split ranked second among all defensive tackles at the combine. He also had an impressive 33-inch vertical and 9-foot-5 broad jump. Proctor scored an unofficial 9.13 relative athletic score.
