DC Wink Martindale again challenges Giants fans ahead of Colts game

New York Giants defensive coordinator Don "Wink" Martindale has challenged fans to make themselves heard ahead of the club's upcoming home game against the 4-10-1 Indianapolis Colts.

"Everybody’s talked about how we want playoff football around here," Martindale said while speaking with reporters Thursday, per Ed Valentine of Big Blue View. "Here’s what we need: We need playoff fans to show up for this game and be as loud as they can be. I know it’s New Year’s Day, so if you have one going on on New Year’s Eve, keep it going. And take it all the way through the game. If not, get plenty of rest and be ready to be loud on Sunday. I can’t wait for it. It’s going to be exciting times here for our great fans and for our guys on defense."

The 8-6-1 Giants control their fate and will clinch a playoff berth with a victory over Indianapolis this Sunday. Big Blue can still back into the postseason tournament before Week 18 with a loss to the Colts coupled with other results.

Some may remember how Martindale seemed to call Giants fans out before the club's home opener against the Carolina Panthers in Week 2. New York defeated Carolina 19-16 and has produced an overall record of 4-3-1 in games held at MetLife Stadium ahead of Sunday's home finale.

The Giants finish the regular season at the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles (13-2) on Jan. 8. Philadelphia hasn't yet secured the conference's No. 1 playoff seed and will welcome the 6-9 New Orleans Saints to Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday.
