DE Casey Toohill Retires

“Today, I retire from football,” Toohill wrote in a social media post. “Truthfully, I agonized over finding the right words for this post. Football has been such a constant in every phase of my life. It’s been foundational to my identity, and walking away feels like stepping into the unknown.”

Toohill entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Eagles in 2020. He wound up making just one regular-season appearance in Philadelphia during his rookie season, however. Toohill would up in Washington midway through the campaign and remained there for another three years. He largely served as a rotational defensive presence over that span but made eight starts in 2023.

That season saw the Stanford product set a new career high in categories like sacks (five) and tackles for loss (nine). Toohill departed on the open market once his rookie contract expired, taking a one-year pact with the Bills. After making 14 appearances with Buffalo, he joined the Texans but did not survive roster cuts. A midseason workout with the 49ers as part of their search for injury replacements along the edge did not produce a deal.

In all, Toohill played in 72 combined regular and postseason games during a five-year NFL stretch. He will hang up his cleats at the age of 30 with roughly $4.6MM in career earnings.
