With a new head coach comes new philosophies on players, which benefitted some of the Las Vegas Raiders more than others.
One player who might not be finding the shift to Pete Carroll overly enjoyable is cornerback Jakorian Bennett. Carroll has typically favored bigger bodies in the secondary, automatically putting the five-foot-eleven Bennett at a disadvantage. With Eric Stokes and third-round rookie Darien Porter putting his starting spot in jeopardy, the third-year cornerback was in need of a big offseason to turn the tide.
However, what has happened instead could indicate Bennett is falling out of favor with the new coaching staff.
According to the Silver and Black Sports Network’s Jesse Merrick, Bennett has shuffled around the defensive units throughout training camp, ranging from first-team to even third-team duties.
It kind of feels like Jakorian Bennett is the odd man out in the cornerback room
He doesn’t fit the size profile Pete clearly favors but it’s still early
We’ve seen him take reps with the 1s, 2s, and 3s already

According to Merrick, the cornerbacks primarily rotating in the first-team offense have been Stokes, Porter and second-year cornerback Decamerion Richardson.
That is bad news for Bennett, who now has potentially fallen to the fourth spot for outside cornerbacks. It is certainly not what the Maryland product had in mind after a strong second season with the Raiders, suggesting an upwards career trajectory. However, it appears the opposite is happening, and teams in need of younger cornerbacks could look to acquire Bennett if he does not jump up the Raiders depth chart.
There is still plenty of time for Bennett to get his starting job back, but this is not a positive development for him.
