Shedeur Sanders' experience with the 2025 NFL draft wasn't 'legendary'. While his fall to the fifth round will be remembered for many years to come, the Browns hope they got the steal of the century.
Deion Sanders' son was projected as a top-ten pick, but ended up going 144th overall. The fifth quarterback to be taken off the board behind a few QBs with worse stats. Shedeur was also the Browns second signal-caller after drafting Oregon's Dillon Gabriel with pick No. 94.
Since taking a tumble, Sanders has made it a priority to be in Cleveland and become part of the community. One of the biggest differences will be his jersey number. Sanders will be going with No. 12, paying homage to his mentor Tom Brady. His signature No. 2 was already assigned to wide receiver DeAndre Carter, who the Browns signed in free agency.
Sanders got to see the Browns locker room for the first time on Thursday. He was in awe of his new jersey with the No. 12 hanging in his locker. But it seems his pops is still getting adjusted to Shedeur not being No. 2. Coach Prime commented on the post by the Browns.
"God is faithful! I know for a fact that smile is Genuine! Let's go #2 I mean #12," Deion wrote.
Cleveland's QB room will spark interest. Sanders will be in the midst of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Gabriel. Deshaun Watson will also play a role as he comes back from an Achilles injury. But with two rookies, there will be camp battles on the horizon.
The Browns' rookie minicamp starts Friday with Sanders looking to find an edge at the next level. Needless to say, the start of his NFL career will be key to his success.
