'Delusional' Dolphins address blowout win over Bills

The Miami Dolphins produced the most shocking result of Sunday's NFL action when they notched a 30-13 blowout win over the Buffalo Bills (6-3) that improved the Dolphins to 3-7 on the season.

Following that victory, pass-rusher Bradley Chubb explained why he and others inside the Miami locker room are "delusional" enough to believe the club still has something to play for this fall.

Dolphins haven't lost belief despite record

"It didn't matter. We just showed up to work," Chubb said about the Dolphins being 8.5-point underdogs ahead of Sunday's game, per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN. "Everybody had that same mindset, and that's why I used the word 'delusional' because nobody on the outside's going to believe it. But all of us in there knew and came out and showed it [Sunday]. It's just about the belief, man, everybody there believing in each other, believing in the process, believing in how we're going to take the field, and that's what worked."

The Dolphins seemed to be a franchise in disarray when they "mutually" agreed to part ways with general manager Chris Grier on Oct. 31. Some understandably wondered if Miami head coach Mike McDaniel would be fired during the team's Week 12 bye. Meanwhile, analysts criticized the Dolphins for not acquiring future draft assets for talents such as Chubb and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle ahead of last Tuesday's trade deadline.

On Sunday, Miami held a Buffalo offense led by reigning Most Valuable Player Josh Allen scoreless for over three quarters of play. In the fourth quarter, Dolphins running back De'Von Achane put the game to bed with two touchdown runs.

"We all know what we can do, and we believe that if we put our minds to it, we can play complementary football like we did," Chubb added. "The sky's the limit, man. You know what I mean? It's not delusional -- at the end of the day, we know we can do it."

Dolphins haven't quit on Mike McDaniel

The Dolphins next face the Washington Commanders (3-7) in Madrid on Nov. 16. Washington will be without injured starting quarterback Jayden Daniels for that matchup, and ESPN BET had Miami as a 2.5-point favorite over the Commanders as of Monday morning.

"I'm very happy that everyone gets to see the side that I see," McDaniel said about his team, which has now earned two victories in three tries. "I see guys -- win, lose or draw -- focus and lean in and buy in. And I think eventually you have games where it comes together in situations like that. So, I think it's awesome because they deserve it. Not a surprise to me. ...We knew that if we wanted to gain some respect from that team, we had to earn it."
