DeMarcus Lawrence makes history with new Cowboys contract

The Dallas Cowboys came to a surprise new contract agreement with DeMarcus Lawrence on Monday that will also allow the defensive lineman to make some history.

The Cowboys re-signed Lawrence to a new three-year deal with $30 million guaranteed. The contract keeps Lawrence in the fold while simultaneously reducing his cap hit for 2022, giving Dallas some extra flexibility.

The contract also means that Lawrence becomes the first defensive lineman in NFL history to have seven straight seasons of his contract guaranteed. As long as he sees out the deal, Lawrence is poised to have earned over $130 million.

There were fears that the Cowboys would have to move on from Lawrence for cap reasons, as the defensive lineman initially refused to rework his contract. Things clearly changed, and both sides will be pleased by this.
