DeMarcus Lawrence Throws his Support Behind Drew Lock

The Seattle Seahawks are in a great spot entering Week 3 of the 2026 season.

The team is 2-0, and that’s without starting quarterback Sam Darnold. Darnold went down at the beginning of Week 1, but the Seahawks haven’t missed a beat due to Drew Lock stepping in.

Lock has been everything the team could have hoped for. The quarterback has avoided mistakes, looked in control, and made the winning plays. Now, Darnold is preparing to come back, but DeMarcus Lawrence wants people to appreciate Lock as a quarterback as well.

Lawrence Wants Lock to Get Paid

Lawrence spoke with the media on Thursday ahead of the team’s travels to Washington.

The veteran star took the opportunity to praise Lock.

“(He’s) exposed how talented he is,” Lawrence said of Lock. “It is unique. Not that many backup quarterbacks in the league can do what Lock can do. Pay the man.”

Through two games, Lock has led the team to a 2-0 record while completing 72.9% of his passes for 422 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Lawrence is just being a great teammate and supporting Lock because he’s headed to free agency after this season. Based on some of the quarterback play we’ve seen this season, it’s not a stretch at all to say that Lock could start for several teams.

Lawrence wants Lock to get paid, but that probably won’t be by the Seahawks. The Seahawks have to start thinking about Darnold’s next deal, as he will be a free agent after 2027. No team can afford to pay two starting quarterback salaries, so it’s hard to imagine Lock sticking around for long.

Lock Successfully Rebuilding Career

In a way, Lock and Darnold are similar. They’re both quarterbacks who were written off after flaming out with the teams that drafted them. Then, they both found success in other places and turned their career trajectories around.

When Lock was starting for the Broncos, it seemed like he probably wouldn’t be in the league for long. The quarterback had another bad stint with the Giants, and his time was running out. However, signing with Seattle has completely changed things for Lock, and it seems inevitable that he will get another shot.
