Dallas Cowboys (5-8) head coach Mike McCarthy provided an update on the status of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of Monday’s Week 14 home defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals (5-8).
McCarthy called the injury of “serious nature,” and that “it didn’t look good,” per Jon Machota of The Athletic.
The injury occurred as Overshown was attempting to make a tackle on Bengals running back Chase Brown. As Overshown engaged with guard Alex Cappa, another Bengals offensive lineman fell on his right leg. Overshown, who needed assistance to get off the field, was immediately taken to the X-ray room for examination.

Overshown, the 2023 third-round pick out of Texas, missed his entire rookie season after sustaining a torn ACL in his left knee during the preseason. The 24-year-old made a full recovery and has been a bright spot on the Cowboys’ defense this season. Entering Monday, Overshown had tallied 84 tackles (52 solo), eight tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, one pick six and a forced fumble.
Overshown is the third Cowboy to record at least five sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble in the same season, joining DeMarcus Ware (2006) and Greg Ellis (1999), per Todd Archer of ESPN.
“Wouldn’t want this for anyone else! One of God’s Toughest Soldiers,” Overshown wrote on X. “Keep me in your prayers…”
Fellow linebacker Micah Parsons was emotional talking about Overshown’s injury after the game.
“I cried,” Parsons said. “That’s like my little bro, bro. He don’t deserve that either, he really don’t. So, just understand what he’s going to go through and to be there for him physically and mentally is so challenging because he’s so talented. The year he was having — I just don’t think that’s fair either.”
