Denver Broncos are interested in signing former first-round pick who can help Bo Nix get better in 2025

The Denver Broncos have been searching for a very specific position the last two years. Some would say it's the tight end position, others would just say more weapons for Bo Nix. Sean Payton calls it the "joker" position.

With free agency set to start soon, and the legal tampering period starting on Monday, the Broncos can reign in a player like that to help their stud rookie quarterback, that is, if any free agents are remaining. This early into the negotiation process, it feels like every team is just bringing back their unrestricted free agents, and that includes the Broncos, who have already extended D.J. Jones.

One player they won't have to worry about that with, because he was released from his team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, is tight end Evan Engram, who is very good at the position despite being cut from the team. The Jaguars had to for salary cap reasons, and he was an easy cap casualty with the way his contract was structured, saving the Jaguars money to attack free agency or the 2025 NFL Draft.

As for the Broncos, they could greatly benefit from this move by the Jaguars. In fact, they are already getting to work.

Broncos have a meeting with TE Evan Engram

The Broncos need a tight end, Evan Engram needs a new team. The Broncos need a weapon for Bo Nix, Evan Engram needs someone to throw him the ball. The Broncos need a joker, Evan Engram needs someone to give him a shot. So, the two sides have mutual interest.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Broncos are set to meet with Engram in Denver. This would be a huge get for the Broncos, and especially for Nix, who needs some more weapons, but specifically a pass catching tight end.

He was injured a ton of last season. So, they may want to make sure that the shoulder injury from last season is good, which it likely is. But, the Broncos will do their due diligence. In 2023, though, Engram was maybe a top five tight end in the league.

He finished the season with 114 catches and 963 receiving yards. That's the kind of production the Broncos are hoping to get from him in 2025, if he does sign. If they want to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers, they have to help out their QB more while he is still on his rookie deal.
