The Denver Broncos and New York Jets were set for an AFC showdown in London. The Broncos were coming off an impressive win in Philadelphia, taking down the Eagles on the road, while the Jets fell to 0-5 on the season. With the win today, Denver could sit in first place of the AFC West.
Broncos Defense Came Through
Overall, this game was tough to watch for both sides. Denver’s offense was horrid in the second half, but luckily, the defense came through.
The Broncos had NINE sacks on the day, getting after Justin Fields on every single drive. Jonathan Cooper led the team with two sacks, having one of his best games of the season. What the defense has done is unreal through the first six games,
and they’re still missing LB Dre Greenlaw.
Patrick Surtain shut down Garrett Wilson today, showing once again why he is the best cornerback in the NFL. The Broncos’ secondary was also extremely sharp today, which allowed the defensive front to generate significant pressure on Fields.
The offense was abysmal today, after Bo Nix threw for over 100 yards in the first quarter. Sean Payton’s play calling was also questionable, but it’s hard to call a perfect game when your team is so undisciplined. When they had the ball in their own end zone, a holding call resulted in a safety, giving the Jets an 11-10 lead. Luckily, the defense was able to stop the Jets, and Denver came out with a win.
The Jets Continue To Impress!
The New York Jets manage to lose in a more embarrassing fashion every week. Today, they had 82 yards of total offense, and Justin Fields had 45 passing yards. If Breece Hall couldn’t win the game by himself, Aaron Glenn’s game plan was finished. Their defense has been a huge issue, but you can’t win games if your quarterback just floats around in the pocket.
Glenn confirmed after the game that Fields will start again next week, and no benching is imminent. Everything on offense is just lackluster for the Jets. The offensive line play is terrible, which is hurting the running and passing game. Even if they were to start Tyrod Taylor, I don’t think it would change much. The play calling is very predictable, and they rely way too much on their running backs.
The Jets will head back home to take on the Carolina Panthers in MetLife Stadium next week, still searching for their first win of the season.
