One of the biggest needs for the Denver Broncos during the 2025 offseason will be for a pass-catching tight end.
Their leading receiving TE in 2024 was Adam Trautman, who racked up just 188 yards on the season, and no Denver TE reached 20 receptions. Surrounding second-year quarterback Bo Nix with better weapons must be the Broncos top priority to take their offense to the next level.
It seems as though they are doing just that at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. One of the top TE prospects of this year's draft class, Gunnar Helm of the Texas Longhorns, confirmed that the Broncos are one of seven teams that he has had a formal interview with so far.
Helm is a Colorado native, attending Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village. While speaking to the media at the Combine, Helm discussed what it was like to interview with the team he grew up rooting for.
"I did grow up a Broncos fan," Helm said. "I was a 20 minute drive from downtown Denver. Grew up going to a lot of games. Grew up going to Dove Valley for some camp practices. It was definitely a dream come true."

Helm is a big target at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds. In 2024 he caught 60 passes for 786 yards and seven touchdowns for the Longhorns. He isn't the most explosive athlete, but has sure hands and is a smooth route runner. Helm would make for an ideal safety blanket for Nix across the middle in the short-to-intermediate passing game.
Helm's large frame also helps him to be a solid blocker. If Denver were to select Helm, he would instantly be the top TE on its roster. The Broncos could also add a veteran TE in free agency to pair with Helm (or a different rookie TE) to really bulk up the position. Sean Payton has a history of effectively using his TEs, coaching names such as Jimmy Graham, Juwan Johnson, and hybrid Taysom Hill.
