Denver Broncos Land Star WR in Blockbuster Trade Deal

Jaylen Waddle is heading to Denver, and the price tag tells you exactly how serious the Broncos are about contending. The Denver Broncos are acquiring the wide receiver from the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Denver is sending first-, third-, and fourth-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft to Miami, including the No. 30 overall pick and the 30th slots in both later rounds and gets a fourth-rounder back in return. Waddle comes attached to a $68.6 million commitment over three years, and at 27, he is still well within his prime.

The numbers from his five years in Miami are a mixed bag. He totaled 373 receptions for 5,039 yards and 27 touchdowns across that stretch, with his 1,356-yard second season standing as the clear peak, one he never got back to, mostly due to injuries.

When Tyreek Hill went down in September, Waddle stepped up as the primary target and averaged just under 81 yards per game over six weeks. Then a rib injury slowed things down, his output dropped to 40 yards per game in the following stretch, and he missed the season finale against the New England Patriots entirely. It was a frustrating end to a frustrating chapter.

Now that chapter is closed, and Waddle gets a fresh start somewhere that clearly wants him.

As Spotrac's Michael Ginnitti broke down, the contract structure is worth noting. The cap hits run $4.9 million in 2026 despite $17 million in cash going out that year, before jumping to $27 million in 2027 and $30 million in 2028, with a $6.1 million void year in 2029. Strip it back to what's really guaranteed. $17 million locked in for 2026, $15.2 million already secured for 2027, and another $8.2 million set to vest next March and this deal essentially plays out as a two-year, $41.2 million commitment.

For Denver, the fit makes sense. Waddle's speed and ability to stretch coverage opens up the field for everyone around him, and sliding in next to Courtland Sutton gives the Broncos a receiver pairing that could quietly be one of the better combinations in the conference this season.

Meanwhile, Miami keeps moving. The Dolphins have now parted ways with Waddle, Tua Tagovailoa , Tyreek Hill, and Bradley Chubb. That is not roster tinkering. That is a full reset and the franchise appears to know exactly what it's doing.
