The Denver Broncos earned the AFC’s first seed and a bye week with their Week 18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. As the team recovers and rests, they await their opponent in the divisional round. There are four possible opponents – Pittsburgh, Houston, Buffalo, and Los Angeles – that could play in the divisional round against Denver. Here are these matchups ranked by how the Broncos would fare against them.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers

The AFC North champions barely made it to the playoffs; it was thanks to a missed Tyler Loop kick. They’ll need more miracles to win their wild card game against the Texans and travel to Empower Field. The Steelers are the most likely squad of the four options that the Broncos can go in the game knowing they can easily win.

Aaron Rodgers will have flashes of his vintage self break through every few drives but the Denver defense will keep him paranoid and scrambling all game long. Home field advantage and their brutal defense will give Denver the edge and a comfortable win over the Steelers if they win Monday night.

3. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers would be playing in Denver for the second time in three weeks if they beat the favored New England Patriots on Sunday night. The divisional rival has been a nuisance for the Broncos, splitting the season series, and being undefeated against the Bo Nix lead squad when quarterback Justin Herbert is starting.

The AFC West runner-ups can be a headache but their familiarity can allow Denver to get to Herbert by knowing his patterns.

2. Buffalo Bills

The Bills have been here before, being a mainstay of the NFL playoff picture for multiple seasons. Just last year, they beat the wheels off the Broncos in their first playoff appearance in eight years. This time around, the Broncos are the home team favorites with Buffalo being a weaker team than usual.

Denver will have their revenge game, determined to beat quarterback Josh Allen and prove that they’re a new AFC powerhouse.

1. Houston Texans

The Texans ended the season on a nine game winning streak with the number one ranked defense in the NFL. They prove to be the toughest team that can fly to Denver and win in the divisional round. Their defense mirrors Denver’s with its heavy hitting linebackers and “no mercy” edge rushers.

If the Broncos want to win, they’ll have to win the turnover battle. Both defenses will allow limited chances to score so any way to make more shots for the offenses will end up as the deciding factor.

End Of My Broncos Rant

The AFC side of the 2025 playoffs are shaping up to be one of the most wide open brackets we’ve seen in years. Any team can go out and secure a spot in the Super Bowl with Denver being the front runners with their home field advantage.

The Broncos are set up for a deep playoff run as the first seed. Looking at all the possible divisional round opponents and beyond, Denver has their best shot since Super Bowl 50 to represent the AFC in the big game.
