With the Denver Broncos seemingly in need of a new starting running back, their current ones are seemingly expendable.
The team will likely look to address the position this offseason, whether by signing a free agent like Aaron Jones or drafting an elite prospect like Ashton Jeanty.
One such back, that Mile High Sport's Cody Roark suggests is unlikely to return as a free agent, is former second-round pick Javonte Williams.
Williams was a highly touted prospect known for his elusiveness when he was selected with the No. 35 pick in the 2021 NFL draft. However, injuries have sapped his rushing ability a bit, and he no longer is the dynamic back he was drafted as.
Williams was solid in the passing game last season but just hasn't cut it in the ground game. Sean Payton would likely prefer a more versatile back, or at least backs that stand out more in specific areas.
His best season with Denver came in his rookie season, where he rushed for 903 yards and four touchdowns on 203 carries, and added 43 receptions for 316 yards and three touchdowns on 53 targets.
After lots of ups and downs with the team, it seems like this offseason is a good time for the Broncos and Williams to mutually part ways for a fresh start.
