Denver Broncos still need to fill their biggest offseason need after missing out on former All-Pro WR Cooper Kupp in free agency

Despite Denver showing interest, former All-Pro wide receiver Cooper Kupp will not be joining the Broncos.

Instead, the veteran free agent signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Friday evening. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Denver was one of Kupp's preferred destinations, but it was likely tough to compete with Seattle since he is a Washington native.

It is unknown just how aggressively the Broncos were pursuing Kupp. It doesn't matter much now, but the fact remains that Denver still needs a legitimate No. 2 WR to complement Courtland Sutton. The current cast behind Sutton include Marvin Mims, Devaughn Vele, and Troy Franklin.

The Broncos did upgrade their tight end group by signing veteran Evan Engram to a two-year, $23 million deal on Wednesday. Engram will no doubt give their passing game a boost, but Denver would be wise to add another playmaking WR to round out its air attack.

It could do that through free agency or the draft. Some of the top remaining free agent WRs are Stefon Diggs, Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen, and Tyler Lockett. Each of those guys are over 30, but are still fairly productive. Being in the later stagers of their careers could make them affordable.

The Broncos have seven picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, including three in the top 81. They could definitely use one, or multiple, picks on a WR that would be able to contribute right off the bat. With how stacked Denver is on defense with the new additions of safety Talanoa Hufanga and linebacker Dre Greenlaw, it can now go all-in on the offensive side. The time to do so is now while quarterback Bo Nix is still playing on his rookie contract.
