Denver's recent rushing surge shows why it should draft a running back

A consistent rushing attack solves some of the Broncos' offensive woes, and drafting a running back could boost the offense further.

In Sunday's 24-15 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, Denver running back Latavius Murray rushed for 130 yards, becoming the first Bronco to cross the 100-yard rushing mark in 14 games.

Although Murray made a Pro Bowl in 2015, it's unlikely he will reach that level again at 32 years old, typically the twilight of a running back's career.

However, his performance shows Denver how a young, dynamic playmaker changes its offense. Consequently, it should select from a loaded running back class in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Per Tankathon's Mock Draft,  the Broncos have the 26th pick, within the range of Bijan Robinson (Texas) and Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama).

ESPN's draft guru Mel Kiper Jr., ranked Robinson as the best running back in the 2023 NFL Draft and his eighth-best prospect.

"He led the FBS in broken tackles per game (4.1) and averaged 112.7 rushing yards per game. I don't love drafting running backs in Round 1, but Robinson deserves this ranking," Kiper Jr. writes.

Robinson's a tantalizing talent, but ESPN's Todd McShay believes Gibbs could mirror Pro Bowl running backs.

"Gibbs not only rushed for 850 yards so far this season but caught 42 passes. He could make the sort of impact we regularly see from Alvin Kamara and Dalvin Cook," McShay writes.

Robinson and Gibbs are great options and might help Russell Wilson end his funk.

Marshawn Lynch accompanied Wilson when Seattle won Super Bowl XLVIII. Lynch led the league in rushing touchdowns (12) that year.

Perhaps a young running back can be the sequel to "beast mode."
