For nearly a decade, the Las Vegas Raiders were building around quarterback Derek Carr. That was until Josh McDaniels came in and decided to start over at quarterback.
That ended up being bad news for both sides, as the Raiders couldn't find an upgrade at the position, while Carr struggled to make an impact with the New Orleans Saints. The quarterback decided to retire this offseason, and with McDaniels no longer in Las Vegas, there's no reason for him to have any beef with the Raiders franchise.
In fact, he's rooting for the franchise that gave him his first chance in the NFL. At a recent golf tournament, he offered praise for new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll and first-round pick running back Ashton Jeanty.
"I love Pete Carroll. I've always loved him, always admired him from afar," Carr told Shannon Kelly of Nevada Sports Net. "His guys play super aggressive, super fast on defense. ... On offense, you know they're gonna run the football, obviously with their draft pick, even though he's a Boise State Bronco, I'll look past that he's a Raider now, so we're family."
Had Carr been able to play with a coach like Carroll in Las Vegas, he might still be playing with the team. The Raiders have been a revolving door at head coach, and the hope is that Carroll can bring stability. Jeanty is also an exciting addition who will bring a dynamic element to the Raiders' running game, which is something Carr didn't always have.
